Panels, Workshops and Themes of the Regional Conference of Service Learning

The Regional Service-Learning Conference had two rounds with international panelists on the following topics:

The first panel will addressed the topic of why Service Learning is needed for the present and the future of education ” with a focus on the involvement of young people in Service Learning, and how to best prepare young people for 21st century society and the workplace, as well as inputs on where education will go in the future, in the context of Service-Learning. This topic was discussed in depth by the participating panelists:

Elvira Hadžibegović, General Director of the Forum MNE from Montenegro
Jehona Gjurgjeala, Director of TOKA from Kosovo
Aferdita Gjoni, from the Mary Ward Loreto Foundation from Albania. 

This panel was moderated by Alžbeta Brozmanová Gregorová, who is an Associate Professor at Matej Bel University and President of the Platform of Volunteer Centers and Organizations.

For the second panel of this conference the panelists discussed the topic “Service-Learning pedagogy as in-depth in-service teacher professional development”. This panel focused on how this approach directly contributes to the implementation of the curriculum and contributes to the professional development of teachers – including more effective curriculum learning and class management. This topic was addressed by:

Simina Bejenaru, Teacher and Facilitator at Transylvania College from Romania
Bojana Perić Prkosovački, Kolping Society of Serbia from Serbia.

This panel was moderated by Anca Gaidoș, Director at the New Horizon Foundation from Romania.

The panel was followed by presentation of publication and a collections of Service-Learning practices from the region, followed by two workshops

“Why is student participation in Service Learning activities so important?”, led by Rreze Hoxha, TOKA Program Manager; and

“I want to start practicing Service Learning – what are my first steps?”, led by Anca Gaidoș.
